Jeff has taught English for twenty years at the same high school he attended in the small town of Bali, located in the heart of the Adirondacks. His wife, who owns the local coffee shop, is a folk artist, and his daughter and son both attend high school.
Jeff's ordinary life is upended when his old high school neighbor and friend, David Gold, who he hasn't spoken to in over twenty years, now a famous movie star, returns to Bali to film his newest movie. Jeff has kept David's terrible secret about what he did before graduating and leaving town, but his return threatens to destroy all those little consistencies in life Jeff holds so dear.
